TIME FOR MUSIC: My Top 10 Jazz Songs to Start the New Year
Since it is still January, people are just so eager to find out what the music industry has in store this year. I, in the other side, have no trouble waiting for the famous artists to drop a new hit. I listen to Jazz every single day of my life regardless of what era. As much as I love Jazz music, I love sharing with all my dearest readers. I figured it's nice to have people around to share with, so without any further do, here are 10 of my favorite Jazz for January.
1. ORANGE COLORED SKY - MICHAEL BUBLÈ
Since it is the beginning of a new year, it would be nice to have a good pump of energy at daytime. What comes into mind when you hear the word 'Energetic Jazz'? True that is, Big Band-style New York Jazz. That brought us back to the roaring 20's.
2. MISTY - ELLA FITZGERALD (ft. THE LONDON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA)
It was 7 years ago since I discovered this song upon downloading jazz playlists on my phone. This song was one of them and it took me AWAY. The version that I heard was the one without LSO (London Symphony Orchestra) and this one I had just so recently figured out. The initial smoothness of the piano intro was so swaying, and the LSO version added more details throughout the song without being hyperbolic. I have to be honest that I listen to this almost every day in order to pay homage to this great lady of Jazz, Ella Fitzgerald. Sometimes we just need some time off from life and listen to these musics, turn off the light, have a bottle of Chianti or Cabernet, warm tub and get some hot dip.
3. MOANIN' - ART BLAKEY AND THE JAZZ MESSENGERS
If anyone would ever ask, my favorite Jazz genre is undoubtedly Hard-Bop and everyone who knows Jazz, knows Hard-Bop. If by chance you're not accustomed to listening to Hard-Bop then you'll probably find out soon. This song brings out the most out of sunny days, gloomy days, even your house party. Just try to listen!
4. ARE YOU THE ONE? - PETER CINCOTTI
I got this song acquainted to me by my Pinterest suggestions. I submitted to my courage and found this song super easy. Aside from his gorgeous profile, let's just live by the fact that he's got one undeniably hot voice as well.
5. ON A SLOW BOAT TO CHINA (ft. CAROL WELSMAN) - RENEE OLSTEAD
I stumbled upon this song just recently and already enjoying the vibe it gives. Just another song that I listen to every so often, thinking about my future Jazz wedding.
6. HISTORIA DE UN AMOR - LISA ONO
As one of the most respected Jazz - Bossa Nova musician there ever is, Lisa Ono has captured many hearts including mine. Her deep voice brings me to another dimension and oh how I regret not knowing she was guest starring in Java Jazz Festival a solid few years ago.
7. IN YOUR OWN SWEET WAY - WES MONTGOMERY
This slow Jazz played by the one of a kind Jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery, is a perfect accompaniment for dinners and hangouts, a beautiful piece of music for instrumental junkies.
8. ONE SCOTCH, ONE BOURBON, ONE BEER - AMOS MILBURN
I'm personally a fan of the smooth vocal and how it really gets me in the mood of drinking responsibly. A great tune for a regular bar visit while having some strong Absinthe or spirits.
9. ON THE STREET WHERE YOU LIVE - MATT DUSK
Another favorite Jazz (hot) guy! Seriously tho, guys with his mesmerizing voice can easily take me out to dinner without having to say a word. This song gave me the feeling of being stalked (in a good way) by a hot guy who eventually found out where you live.
10. ONCE UPON A SUMMERTIME - BILL EVANS TRIO & MONICA ZETTERLUND
I discovered this song that was sung by Janet Seidel, my all-time favorite female Jazz singer. But I found this original piece as good as hers, or even better. This song may as well tell us a tragic story about a couple who broke up but the woman went back to where it's said to be 'Paris' and relived the moments they had when they were together. I almost always cry every time this song plays.
